Open Records

The Texas Public Information Act allows citizens access to a wide range of government information. Under the Texas Public Information Act, each elected official is the public information officer for his or her office. The following information is intended to direct you to the right custodian of certain records. If you have questions, or are unsure about how to request public information, feel free to reach out at the contact information below.

1. Court records.
Case filings, including civil judgment, suits affecting parent child relationships, and criminal cases, can be requested from the respective clerks’ office. 

The District Clerk maintains records on behalf of the district courts, and the County Clerk maintains records on behalf of the County Courts at Law and constitutional county court with probate jurisdiction in Potter County. Each Justice of the Peace maintains his or her own case records.

2. Divorce records.
Divorce decrees are ordered by a court. You can find divorce decrees through the District Clerk’s Office.

3. Commissioners Court records.
Records of the Potter County Commissioners Court, including upcoming and past agendas and minutes from meetings, are maintained by the County Clerk’s Office. Those records may be found online, here:

4. Deed records.
Deed records are maintained by the County Clerk’s Office and may be searched online through the Official Public Records Portal, here. https://pottercountytx-web.tylerhost.net/web/user/disclaimer

5. Appraisal District records.
Property owner information may be found through the Potter-Randall Appraisal District. Here is a link to the Appraisal District’s website: https://www.prad.org/

6. Birth and Death records.
Birth and Death records for Potter County are maintained by the City of Amarillo’s Department of Vital Statistics. Here is a link to that website:

7. Marriage records.

8. Arrest records.

To request public information from Potter County, please provide a written description of the information you seek, and your contact information (mailing address, email address, or telephone number). In order to trigger timeframes for responses under the Public Information Act, a written request for information must be sent to the proper party. To request records under the responsibility of the Potter County Commissioner Court, please submit your request by U.S. mail or personal delivery to:
