About the Office:
The Criminal Division of the Potter County Attorney’s Office prosecutes
adults charged with Class A or Class B misdemeanor criminal offenses
which were committed in Potter County. Class A and Class B misdemeanor
offenses include a wide variety of offenses, such as family violence
assault, theft, driving while intoxicated and possession of marihuana.
The Criminal Division represents the State of Texas in the two Potter
County Courts at Law, where all Class A and Class B misdemeanor offenses
are prosecuted. Criminal Division prosecutors represent the State of
Texas in all arraignment hearings, pre-trial hearings, plea bargain
hearings, non-jury trials, jury trials, and hearings to revoke
probation.
Should an adult appeal his conviction for a Class A or Class B
misdemeanor offense, the Criminal Division continues to represent the
State of Texas in the appeal, which may involve appearing before the 7th
Court of Appeals in Amarillo or the Court of Criminal Appeals in
Austin.
The Criminal Division of the Potter County Attorney’s Office prosecutes
adults charged with Class C misdemeanor criminal offenses which were
committed in Potter County, but outside of the Amarillo City limits.
Class C misdemeanor offenses include a wide variety of offenses, such as
traffic tickets, Public Intoxication, and Minor in Possession of
Alcohol. The Criminal Division represents the State of Texas in the four
Justice of the Peace Courts, where all Class C misdemeanor offenses are
prosecuted. Criminal Division prosecutors represent the State of Texas
in all pre-trial hearings, plea bargain hearings, non-jury trials, and
jury trials.
Should an adult appeal his conviction for a Class C misdemeanor offense,
the Criminal Division continues to represent the State of Texas in the
appeal, which involves appearing before the two Potter County Courts at
Law.
